Executive Team

Trevor Wills

Chief Executive Officer

Trevor is the CEO of Pulse Clean Energy, a London-based developer and owner of utility-scale battery storage assets. Pulse delivers solutions that reduce energy system costs, decrease emissions, and enhance grid resilience.

With a career spanning North and South America and Europe, Trevor has deep experience in the development, acquisition, and operation of natural gas, wind, solar, hydro, and battery storage facilities across multiple geographies and market structures.

Trevor was involved in the 2022 launch of Pulse, securing a $500 million commitment from the Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (IMCO). Previously, Trevor led Boost Energy Ventures Inc. and co-founded Valence Energy Capital Corporation. He also held leadership roles at ATCO Ltd., including leading Growth & Acquisitions for its global electricity division.

Trevor holds a B.Sc. in Engineering from the University of Alberta and an M.Sc. in Management (with Distinction) from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Nicola Johnson

Chief Financial Officer

Nicola spent 18 years in the property and construction industry at an Australian multi-national, gaining experience across large scale property development, Private Finance Initiative (PFI) infrastructure projects, investment management of large retail and infrastructure funds, as well as corporate accounting and treasury-focused activities in both Australia and the UK.

Nicola then transitioned into the renewables sector, working with a solar developer, owner, and operator before joining Pulse Clean Energy as Chief Financial Officer in 2022. Nicola joined Pulse Clean Energy motivated by its purpose driven culture and excited to work at the heart of the energy transition.

Nicola holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology, Sydney, and is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia.

Pauline Barker

Investment Director

Pauline has extensive experience in renewable energy investment and development across Europe and North America. She has led and contributed to a diverse portfolio of projects spanning biogas, offshore wind, solar, and hydrogen. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with leading multinational corporations, including Shell, EDF, and Eneco. Pauline holds a Master of Engineering (MEng) degree from Durham University and a Diploma in Management Accounting from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Aazzum Yassir

Director of Technology & Operations

Aazzum has more than a decade of experience in the clean energy sector, having worked on numerous projects across Europe, Middle East and Africa. At Pulse Aazzum leads our technology design, procurement and asset operations. Aazzum joined Pulse as he believes in its vision to lead the transformation of energy systems and its core values to do this in an ethical way.

Aazzum has been at the forefront of 5 major technology changes and delivered first of its kind projects: including off shore wind farms, HVDC VSC technology, Battery Storage, Microgrids, and Digitalisation; delivering over 4 GW’s of clean power across the globe. Aazzum holds a Masters in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Manchester and is a Charted Electrical Engineer.

Vasilis Ntanovasilis

Director of Asset Delivery

Vasilis is the Director of Asset Delivery at Pulse Clean Energy, with over 15 years of experience in the renewable energy sector. He has led the development and execution of over 1 GW of large-scale solar and BESS projects across Europe and the UK, managing a budget of approximately £700 million.

In 2008, Vasilis co-founded a renewable energy business in Greece, serving as a Business Associate for seven years. In 2015, he joined Metka, leading solar projects in the UK. In 2018, he moved to Spain to establish Metka’s regional operations and deliver the largest solar project in Europe at that time, later serving as Regional Manager.

Vasilis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and an Advanced Diploma in Contract Management.

Justin Henke

Senior Manager, Investment

Justin leads Pulse’s investment and development teams, identifying and executing on strategic growth initiatives. Driven by a passion to advance clean, reliable, and affordable energy, he brings to Pulse deep expertise in energy and business building.

Previously, as an Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company, he guided clients through complex transformations and investments, from helping scale capital-intensive startups to developing net-zero strategies for energy supermajors. His experience spans the energy sector including batteries, utilities, oil & gas, and private equity. Earlier in his career, he honed his technical and financial capabilities at both an energy consultancy and an oil & gas operator in corporate development and engineering roles.

A Professional Engineer and CFA Charterholder, Justin combines analytical rigor with his client-serving background to deliver lasting value.

Andreas Gandolfo

Senior Strategy and Analytics Advisor

Andreas joined Pulse Clean Energy in 2024 as the Strategy and Analytics Manager. He believes the company’s innovative approach to flexibility will help boost energy security in the transition to reneables. In his role, Andreas supports strategic decision-making across the company’s BESS development, construction, and operations. He also oversees data acquisition, storage, and processing, leading his team in developing dashboards that enable real-time, data-driven decision-making.

Previously, Andreas led BloombergNEF’s European electricity markets team, analysing electricity supply, demand, and pricing dynamics across Europe. He holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Systems from Columbia University and a BA in Economics and International Relations from Tufts University.

Alison Kay

Chairperson of the Board

Alison was Group General Counsel and Company Secretary for National Grid plc for 8 years. As such, she was responsible for shaping the Group legal function within National Grid
and providing Company Secretariat support to the Boards and
Committees of National Grid. She was also responsible for Risk, Ethics and Compliance and oversaw Health and Safety activities on a Group level.

At the end of 2020, Alison assumed an interim role as Director of Strategy and Corporate Affairs, in which she was responsible for shaping National Grid’s Strategy, identifying and executing M&A opportunities and overseeing the external communications function. She also ran the Company’s entrepreneurial and disruptive technology arm, based in California.

After Alison “retired” from corporate life, she took on two non-executive board roles for IMCO, one for AusNet, a gas and electricity transmission and distribution company based in Victoria, Australia and the other for Pulse Clean Energy Ltd, where she now Chairs the Board. Her passion for “greening” the UK energy system made Pulse an ideal place to augment a career spent ensuring energy was sustainable and available to all.

Alison has extensive energy industry exposure including holding a number of positions on European and UK Committees. From 2006 to 2011 she was Chair of the Electricity Pension Scheme and Chaired Enabling, National Grid’s Disability Network.

She is married and lives in Stratford upon Avon.

Matthew Mendes

Non-Executive Director

As Managing Director, Head of Infrastructure, Matthew runs the active management of IMCO’s infrastructure portfolio, investing in top-tier private assets around the world. He leads a team of investment professionals capable of direct investing, co-investing alongside best-in-class managers, and leveraging strategic partnerships and external relationships to access untapped opportunities.

Prior to joining IMCO, Matthew served as CEO of Pulse Clean Energy, focusing on investing in projects to support the transition to a zero-carbon energy system, by developing and operating grid-scale battery storage sites across the UK. His previous roles include senior positions at Enbridge. Over the course of his career, Matthew has executed investments involving onshore and offshore wind and solar projects, tax equity financing, corporate power purchase agreements, and energy production hedging.

Matthew brings deep expertise in global power markets, and a track record of sourcing infrastructure opportunities and growing them from investment thesis to operational leaders across diverse sectors.

Matthew holds a B.A. in Economics from McGill University and a Master’s in Economics from the University of Sydney.

Polina Sims

Non-Executive Director

Polina currently serves as Managing Director, Head of Investment Strategy, Sustainability and Asset Management at IMCO, where she provides strategic guidance, oversight, and support to the Investments leadership team, centrally focused on asset management, articulation and execution of investment strategies, and the Sustainable Investing strategy and integration. Polina joined IMCO in 2020 as the Head of Infrastructure Funds and Asset Management.

Polina has over 20 years of principal investing, advisory, and asset management experience. Previously, she was a Managing Director at CPP Investments with the global Portfolio Value Creation team where she was responsible for identifying and realising value creation opportunities across the firm’s infrastructure, natural resources, private equity, and real estate programs, working with portfolio companies in North America, South America, and Europe. Prior to CPP Investments, Polina was a Partner with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in San Francisco, Boston, and Toronto, where she provided strategic, growth, restructuring and cost-efficiency advice to some of the world’s leading companies.

Polina holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and an ICD.D designation.

Ivor Catto

Non-Executive Director

Ivor joined the Board of Pulse Clean Energy in 2023. He strongly believes that building a flexible grid is central to enabling a transition to zero carbon energy whilst at the same time minimising the cost to the consumer. This is a key reason that he joined Board. Ivor also serves as a Non-Executive Director of the Danish international engineering consultancy COWI A/S.

Ivor was previously Group CEO of RES, the world’s largest independent renewable energy company. Alongside this role he served as Chairman of the industry association WindEurope.

Earlier in his career he was with Scottish Power plc before moving to WS Atkins plc, joining their main Executive Board in 2003. He became CEO of Hyder Consulting plc in 2008.

A Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the IMechE and ICE. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
