TORONTO (AUGUST 10, 2020) – The Investment Management Corporation of Ontario (“IMCO”) is pleased to announce it has established an exclusive partnership with Valence Energy Capital Corporation (“Valence”). Valence will identify and source opportunities in select global power markets, enhancing IMCO’s capabilities through sourcing, acquiring, managing and delivering clean, reliable and cost-effective power to end-use customers.
“From an investment portfolio perspective, power assets can offer a variety of exposures but generally do offer diversification benefits and can offer strong risk-adjusted returns,” said Tim Formuziewich, Managing Director of Infrastructure, IMCO. “With electricity networks increasingly reliant on renewable, non-dispatch energy, we believe value exists by providing energy markets and their customers with flexibility in sourcing renewable energy. We are excited to partner with Valence as it pursues alpha-generating opportunities in the power space for our infrastructure portfolio.”
Valence’s principals, Matthew Mendes and Trevor Wills, have deep industry relationships and knowledge, with a combined thirty years’ building, operating and managing electricity businesses across the globe.
“The energy sector is transitioning towards a cleaner, more nimble, dynamic and customer-centric industry,” said Mendes. “We understand the complexity and opportunity associated with this transition and are excited to partner with IMCO to create world class opportunities in the electricity sector for its clients,” added Wills.
